So… FIFA is coming to Kansas City.
Cue the confetti. Cue the heart palpitations.
I don’t know about you, but every time I see one of those shiny new FIFA 2026 promos pop up on Instagram or the local news, my brain short-circuits just a little. Somewhere between the excitement of the world literally watching our city and the quiet panic of oh wow, I’m absolutely not ready for this, I find myself wondering…
Are We All Just Going to “Go with the Flow”?
Because let me tell you, if “the flow” looks anything like a packed Airbnb calendar, three broken coffee makers, and guests who’ve never heard of a Midwestern thunderstorm, we’re going to need more than a floatie to survive this.
STR Hosts, Cleaners, and Property Managers — This Is Our Super Bowl (Times Ten)
Except, it’s global.
And longer.
And multilingual.
And everyone wants to check in early and leave late.
Whether you’re an STR host with three perfectly curated guest baskets and a ring cam pointed at every entry, or you’re an STR cleaning company (hi, it’s me — TurnTidy KC), this moment is going to stretch our systems, patience, and probably our lumbar support belts to their absolute limits.
Yet here we are, in 2025, and most of us still haven’t met our neighbors—much less put together a game plan.
Feeling Unprepared: We’re All in This Together
Here’s the part where I wish I could say, “Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan.” But the truth is… I don’t. I’m building this airplane mid-flight too.
I don’t know:
How many guests will actually show up.
How much everyone is charging.
If I’ll have enough subcontractors to handle 4x turnover volume in a single week.
Or if I’m going to spend that entire month in a committed relationship with a commercial washer and dryer.
What I do know is that waiting until Spring 2026 to “see how it goes” is probably a one-way ticket to burnout, bad reviews, and losing my street cred.
What We Could Do Instead (Just Spitballing Here)
What if we got weirdly proactive? Like… KC Airbnb Avengers Assemble-level proactive?
Hosts, maybe start talking to your cleaners now. What does your dream prep look like? What’s the backup plan when three units flip in one day?
Cleaners, talk to other cleaning companies. I know, I know… “competition.” But we’re all about to be in the same wild game.
Property managers, sit down with your teams and ask: Can we scale? Should we? Do we want to? (Honestly, a valid question.)
Maybe we even create a local STR hub to share resources, stories, or that one guest who brought an inflatable hot tub to a studio apartment.
Because collaboration is the only way I see any of us making it out with our sanity intact.
Strategies for Success: Planning Ahead
As the event approaches, we need to think strategically. Here are a few ways to prepare:
Leverage Resources
Collaborating with others can help us manage increased demands. We can share cleaning supplies, staff, and even tips on managing guest expectations.
Enhance Guest Experience
We should anticipate what a FIFA guest expects from Kansas City. Consider focusing on the local amenities, offering experiences unique to our city, and ensuring that our properties are equipped with essentials like fast Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, and entertainment options.
Training and Communication
Training staff and enhancing communication between everyone involved will ease pressure. Regular meetings can keep everyone informed about changes and strategies.
So... Am I Ready?
Nope.
But I’m paying attention.
I’m talking to people.
And I’m thinking critically now, while I still have time to plan, hire, train, pivot, and figure out what exactly a FIFA guest expects from a house in Kansas City. A foosball table would probably help, am I right?!
TL;DR?
“Go with the flow” is fine for brunch lines and backyard BBQs. But for a global event with massive economic opportunity, pressure, and unpredictability? We need strategy. We need partnerships. And honestly, we need each other—cleaners, hosts, handymen, laundry crews, neighbors, even city officials.
Let’s not wait until June 2026 to scramble. Let’s start figuring it out now. Together. Before we’re all getting our asses handed to us in four different languages.
Final Thoughts
The arrival of FIFA to Kansas City is an incredible opportunity. However, to make the most of it, we need to be organized and proactive. Let’s embrace this event and show the world what our city has to offer. The countdown to FIFA 2026 starts now, and it’s time to gear up and get ready!
